Leave papers, allowing me to go on leave from the USS Yorktown to Berkley Michigan for 4 days in August 1969. The paper shows that I left the Yorktown at 0001 21 August 1969. But the signature of the OOD (Officer of the Deck) is actually MY HANDWRITING! It was a common practice to actually leave the ship at 4:30 in the afternoon at Liberty Call, rather than wait around until a minute past midnight when Leave began. I don't know how I pulled this off with my signing the liberty paper unless I talked to the OOD before he took his watch and he said it was ok to leave early and he'd enter it in the log that I left at a minute past midnight.
